A Typical Day at Feather River Family Camp

Mornings

Start with a morning yoga/stretch class or a quiet nature walk. After breakfast try arts and crafts, group games, archery, horseback riding, tie-dye, a hike, or other special programs and activities led by OFRC Program Staff.

Each morning we also offer our Tot Lot Program for potty-trained 2-5 year olds, while 6-14 year olds meet up with our energetic and caring Program Staff and have their own fun and age-appropriate programming, such as Archery, Basketball, Nature Hikes, Field Games, Kickball and more!

Afternoons

Afternoons are family time. Many families like to put on their swimsuits and go for a dip in the swimming hole or go tubing down Spanish Creek. Others grab their book and enjoy some reading at their tent. Others nap, finish their art projects, go on a hike or bike ride, or head into town to explore the local area.

The options are endless! From horseback rides to massages, ping-pong to ice cream from the camp store, the day is yours to spend how you will!

Evenings

Nighttime programming and activities include  game nights, s’mores, ping-pong tournaments,  line dancing, the beloved disco bingo, our weekly talent show, and more!

Special activities often occur in the evening as well. The unique physical location of Feather River Camp allows for endless starry views for you and your family to enjoy together.

2027 Family Camp Weekly Themes

Our Theme Week programs are an important part of OFRC’s culture and history, and offer special activities each week in addition to all of our traditional and beloved Family Camp offerings.

Seven themed weeks, June 6 – July 24, 2027. Choose a full week (Sunday–Saturday) or a half week (Sunday–Wednesday or Wednesday–Saturday).

Week 1June 6 – 12

Queer Pride & Community with Camp It Up!

Celebrate who you are and the people who make camp feel like home. This special week is held in partnership with Camp It Up! to create space for queer families to gather and grow together, nurturing intergenerational relationships within and among families. Expect music, dancing, creativity, camp-wide fun, and lots of opportunities to connect, celebrate, and be yourself.

Week 2June 13 – 19

Inspired by Nature

Let your wonder of nature move you. Explore the forests, trails, creeks, and landscapes of Feather River Camp and discover what makes the natural world so moving. Hike, bike, wander, and look closely—letting your curiosity about the natural world inspire you to move through it. Then let what you see, hear, and experience move you in another way: into art and creativity. This is a week to explore, learn, create, and deepen our connection to the natural world around us.

Week 3June 20 – 26

Music in the Mountains

Make a little noise and a lot of joy! Sing, dance, play, listen, and discover new music together. From live performances and pop-up concerts to camp-wide jams, there are lots of ways to join the fun—whether you’re on stage, in the audience, or making music around camp.

Week 4June 27 – July 3

Stories, Stage & Mystery

Tell a story, take the stage, and help solve a mystery together. Throughout the week, hear the stories of Oakland Feather River Camp, learn to tell your own tale, try improv and performance, laugh together, and follow clues as we work together to unravel a camp-wide mystery. Everyone has a role to play—and by the end of the week, we’ll see if we can put all the pieces together. Bring your own costumes!

Week 5July 4 – 10

Community Games & 4th of July

Come play together! Celebrate the 4th with your family through a week full of play and tradition! Cheer each other on, and enjoy the friendly competition of classic camp games, creative challenges, and camp-wide adventures. Whether you’re here to win or just here for the fun, there’s a place for everyone.

Week 6July 11 – 17

From Earth to Stars

Connect with the natural world around you. Explore the forests, creeks, land, wildlife, and night sky that make Feather River Camp so special. Through hands-on science, ecology and watershed walks, and stargazing, we’ll slow down, get curious, and discover the many ways we are connected to the land, water, sky, and living world around us.

Week 7July 18 – 24

Move with Joy

Let’s move and dance together, outside and under the stars! Try dances from around the world, learn something new, and let the music take you somewhere unexpected. From morning movement to late-night dance parties, there’s no experience necessary—just bring your willingness to have fun.
