2017 YOUTH CAMPS
WHY OAKLAND FEATHER RIVER YOUTH CAMP?
At Oakland Feather River Camp’s Youth Overnight Camp, girls and boys ages 7-15, participate in traditional summer camp activities while making new friends, trying new things and experiencing personal character development. We believe our youth camp encompasses the best of the classic summer overnight experience – traditional camp activities, group bonding opportunities and access to the outdoors.
Read on to learn what makes OFRC Youth Camp unique:
Oakland Feather River Camp is located in Plumas National Forest on Spanish Creek. Outdoor enthusiasts are attracted year round to the area’s many streams and lakes, beautiful deep canyons, rich mountain valleys, meadows, and lofty peaks. Our beautiful site will be home for your camper for a week they’ll never forget.
Achievement, Friendships & Character
Campers can also learn a lot during their time at OFRC – how to shoot a bow and arrow, how to cook a meal over an open fire and tons of classic camp songs. However, our real strength, focus and priority is creating friendships, making memories and building character – all while having fun in the sun!
Our staff are trained to keep an eye out for opportunities to strengthen friendships or make ordinary experiences extra-ordinary. Since many of our activities are tent/cabin group-based, campers often become very close to their fellow tent/cabinmates. We believe strongly in creating a tent and cabin culture that emphasizes teamwork, friendship and respect. As one of our counselors once said of his tent/cabin group, “Working together like a team is an expectation, but becoming close like a family is the goal.”
Wide Variety of Activity Offerings
Youth campers enjoy a wide variety of activities while at OFRC Youth Camp. The days are long, but the week flies by. They make new friends and are encouraged to try new things, experiencing themselves and others in brand new ways. A sample list of activities is below:
- Arts & Crafts
- Nature Hikes
- Camp Talent Shows
- Capture The Flag
- Scavenger Hunts
- Group Challenge Course
- Sleepouts under the Stars
NEW IN 2017: Two Week Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program
Sunday, June 18 – Saturday, July 1
Cost: $1,100 (includes round-trip transportation to/from Oakland)
Years in the making… now finally here! The OFRC Counselor-In-Training program will launch Summer 2017! The CIT program is designed to provide leadership and career training to older youth campers as they begin the transition from campers to potential staff members. Participants follow a curriculum designed to teach them about values, inclusion, relationships, communication, developing others, decision-making and emotional maturity through the lens of child development and behavior management. Participants are also paired with a tent/cabin-group to shadow staff and learn skills to become effective cabin counselors. Past experience as a OFRC camper is encouraged but not required.
CIT Program FAQ
What are the requirements to be in the CIT program?
- Be 15 or 16 years old and entering the 11th grade in the fall of 2017.
- Have a desire to work with children in an outdoor resident camp setting.
- Have a strong desire to learn the fundamentals of camp counseling.
- Exhibit attitudes and behaviors that help build the self-esteem of self and others.
- Have the ability to take direction from peers and adults.
How is the CIT program different from traditional Youth Camp?
For one thing, the CIT program is two-weeks long! CITs experience 1 week of team-building, group bonding and leadership development sessions during the first week of training. The second week of training (during normal Youth Camp) provides ample opportunities for observation, practice and mentoring in cooperation with Youth Camp staff.
How Do I Register My Camper for the CIT Program?
It’s nearly identical to our traditional Youth Camp registration process (which can be found below). We ask that you write/type in “CIT Program” in the Special Request section. After receiving your registration and payment, we will follow up with additional program information, including transportation details.
